Unique and Wonderful Zia Polychrome Olla with Many Fine Lines, c. 1880’s

Early fine line jar with ethnographic use and beautiful used surface, early red underbody band, a deep red inner rim band and fire clouds. Rare to find on a Zia jar, the main design field being fine lines; usually parallel lines are minor elements. These would seem to represent rain while the fine line kiva step elements mirror image each other as they encircle the jar, a masterful artistic touch that again suggests water reflection. The fire clouds are blue/black and amazing. It's these subtleties that render this jar as exceptional and pleasing.

Condition: unrestored with ethnographic wear (a good thing)
