Cochiti Chili Bowl with Rich Patina and Negative Designs, 1890

Cochiti chili bowls really don't get much better than this. Deep dough bowl shape in miniature, superbly painted negative designs of leaves and rain, rich dark patina from skillful traditional firing and home use. The jar is inscribed as found by Governor P. Arquero (pueblo governor) and gifted to Grammers, an early historic pottery scholar. Superb bowl.
