Acoma Polychrome Seed Jar with Abstracted Flowers and Rain Lines, c. 1920

Beautifully formed jar with mirror-like devices with arcing negative white narrow ribbons setting off black fields with negative white diamonds. Abstracted flowers have cross hachured areas with orange teardrops inside. This is an old Acoma design with similar versions collected in 1884 by James Stevenson for the Smithsonian and another by the Mindeleffs in 1883. (See figures 9.39 and 9.40 in Harlow and Lamon’s The Pottery of Acoma Pueblo, 2013). Very fine jar.
