20th Century Masterwork Magnificent Zia Storage Jar with Flying Birds, attributed to Trinidad Medina, c. 1930

Trinidad Medina was one of the great pueblo potters of the 20th century. Her specialty and great rarities today were her large storage jars. This one is a great example. The form is flawless with a high shoulder and large almost bowl-like opening. The beautifully painted design includes her characteristic in flight bird with wings and tail feathers composed of parallel lines that could represent rain. The design is also expertly laid out with plentiful designs, but ample open space too. A wonderful and important jar, a 20th century masterwork.

Condition one piece broken out and put back; sounds worse than it is! No plaster fill at all.
