Zuni Polychrome Frog Appliqué Jar, c. 1890’s

Despite it's rather fresh look, this wonderful jar was collected by the current owners grandfather in 1903. So it has been in the same Albuquerque family for generations. Fine craquelure on the surface further attests to its age. The jar is Zuni, but so thin and light that one would almost peg it as an Acoma jar. The jar is decorated with birds (possibly funky parrots), butterflies and frogs that are extruded from the jar's interior. A most unusual and fine Zuni frog jar.

Condition excellent and unrestored with some minimal slip loss from native use, possibly ceremonial
Provenance an Albuquerque family
