“The Leaning Pitcher”: Kewa Small Black-on-Cream Pitcher with Splotch!, c. 1930

Teal did not always look for perfection in her choice of collectible pitchers. This pitcher is, well, cute and imperfect. It is simple and primitive in feel decorated minimally with a pair of connected bisected black leaves; set against a large white field of soapy Santo Domingo slip. It is also altogether charming!

The potter’s “whoops” moment is visible in the photo; the black paint splotch is just under the rim.

Condition: Excellent, unrestored.

Provenance: The Collection of Teal McKibben
