Stunning Large Santa Clara Storage Jar with Bear Paw Handles, attributed to Margaret Tafoya and Carved by Alcario, c. 1930

This is a magnificent jar with great presence. Generously potted, beautifully formed with characteristically beautiful stone polishing so characteristic of Margaret Tafoya (and her family to this day!). Superb potter Nancy Youngblood, grand-daughter of Margaret, attributed the early sgraffito carving of mountains and rainbows to Margaret's husband Alcario. A rare and highly collectible jar.

Size 12 1/2″ tall by 13″ wide
Condition excellent for its age with some scuffing that's inconsequential considering the jar's size
Provenance an Albuquerque family
