Santa Clara Seed Jar by Forrest Naranjo

This is an exceptional example with modern asymmetrical form and Forrests's usual exquisite polish. The design features stylized turtles which are so artistically rendered that we don't see them at first. Tiny vessels like this require tiny clay coils; artistry and fine craftsmanship combined with a modern aesthetic are characteristic of renowned potter.

Forrest comes from an esteemed Santa Clara pottery family. He is a master in sgraffito miniature pottery and is in the collection of Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and the Heard Museum.

Provenance: an exceptional Washington D.C. collection of contemporary pueblo miniature
