Santa Clara Large Cylindrical Vase with Clawed Handles attributed to Sarafina Tafoya, c. 1930

This large cylinder was attributed by a well known Tafoya family potter, to Setafina Tafoya (1863-1949 or 1952), mother of legendary potter Margaret Tafoya. At 18″ tall, it is a stunning, major, and rare example of Serafina's skill as a pottery artist. It is traditional coil formed and stone polished with simple medallion designs. The dramatic handles attach characteristically at the shoulder and extend above the rim. Rare and superb!
