San Juan Red-on-Tan Serving Bowl with Finger Impressions, c. 1890

$1,080.00

Unusual and beautiful with the red painted not on the exterior as usual, but as an interior rim and neck band. The rich tan exterior is the glory of this bowl. It comes from beautiful stone polishing and many years of handling, creating a lush patina. The inner bowl is also stone polished and shows the effects of many years of pueblo home use. The exterior finger impressions are a wonderful touch, allowing us to remember that this fine bowl came from the loving hands of a 19th century pueblo potter.

Condition 2 minor hairline cracks at rim and interior bowl ethnographic wear
Provenance Ex-collection Michael Hering, formerly of School of American Research (SAR)
