San Juan deep Brown Scalloped Serving Bowl, c. 1890

This bowl can be described as plain-ware, a term for pottery lacking unpainted design. This wonderful jar is anything but plain! It is unslipped on the exterior with lovely fire-clouds. The glory of the bowl is the slipped and polished inner bowl that fired to the deepest red brown that I’ve ever seen on a San Juan bowl. Simple and modest, yet exceptional!

Size 4″ tall by 10 1/2″ diameter
Condition excellent with one small very old rim chip, smoothed over from age
