Large Santa Clara/Santo Domingo Highly Polished Black Storage Jar, attributed to Monica Silva, c. 1930

Figure 17.  This is a stunning large large I am attributing to Monica Silva.  She was born at Santa Clara pueblo and learned traditional polished black pottery there.  Years later she married a Santo Domingo man, observing Santo Domingo forms like this jar.  Though she largely made large dough bowls and storage jars in Santo Domingo polychrome style, she occasionally made Santa Clara pottery too. This beautiful jar is an unusual blend of the two.

Condition very good with one old scratch
