Large Polychrome Dough Bowl with Undulating Band, c. 1890s-1900
Beautiful example with band, clouds and rain symbols. The undulating band is likely a water symbol, but lightning and mountains come to mind as well. The surface reflects years of home use and the resulting warmth is what collectors look for in fine, old bowls. The interior was only roughly smoothed by polishing so the coils are evident, an indication of a bowl intended for home use rather than the art market.
Size 9/5″ tall by 17.5″ diameter
Condition excellent with ethnographic wear
