Jemez 5-Color Jar with Avanyu by Teri Cajero

We are proud to now represent emerging artist, Teri Cajero of Jemez Pueblo. Teri’s art is gentle like she is, yet it is subtly complex. In this case, when we look closely at this lovely jar, we are rewarded by finding 5 distinct colors; colors that open a window for us to the beauty of Jemez Pueblo. Teri opens that window. Also her Jemez version of the Avanyu water serpent is crisply and artistically rendered. Important for me too is that while Teri stretches tradition, she pit-fires her pottery outside in the old way. I was lucky to meet Teri and find little gem at Teri’s booth at the 2013 Indian Market. I am so glad that I did.

Teri Cajero was born in 1984 and has been making pottery since 1988. She was taught by her mother Anita Cajero. She is a member of the Sun Clan.
