Jemez 4-Color 7 Piece Lidded Tea Set by Teri Cajero

I fell in love with Teri Cajero’s pottery when I met this delightful and talented artist at Santa Fe’s prestigious Indian Market a few weeks ago. It was early morning and typically cool when my friend Joe and I saw this wonderful set. Like her father, multiple Indian Market ribbon winner, Aaron Cajero, Teri experiments in form and slip colors and in this case to create a charming and very feminine tea set. She told me that she has wanted to make such a set for a long time. The successful result incorporates both matte and polished areas; skillful potting of the teapot, a most challenging form; the cups too have matte and polish; sgraffito birds, flowers, kiva steps, clouds and rain abound. There is a repeating clouds and rain motif on cups and pot while matte and polished tray and saucers are embellished with kiva steps. Again, the subtle complexities of Teri’s pottery has yielded a gentle tour de force. A wonderful achievement for us all to enjoy from a rapidly emerging pueblo potter. We are proud to represent Teri. She is an artist to watch!
