Important Zia 4 Color Olla by Harviana Pino Toribio (1875-1949), c. 1930s

$12,500.00

Figure 14. There is a well known 1935 posed photograph of important early 20th century potter Harviana Toribio on page 310 of Harlow and Lanmon's seminal book, The Pottery of Zia Pueblo.  At the lower left is this beautiful jar. This jar is thickly potted and beautifully painted in vivid reds and yellows and blacks against a white slipped canvas.  The designs are capped stepped, possibly kiva steps with red winged flower like elements.  All of this frames Harviana's distinctive sleek, black flying bird.  This is a charming and historically significant example of early 20th century pottery excellence.
