Gorgeous Cochiti or Tesuque Polychrome Large Water Jar, 1890’s
With traditional Cochiti cloud designs and a brilliantly stone polished underbody and band (that seem Tewa) this jar holds some mystery. However, there is no question of its stunning beauty and artistry. It is beautifully formed with wide midbody and flaring rim. The plentiful designs include clouds, rain, snakes and a whirling black element which could be directions. Even the inner rim has clouds. This was clearly made by an accomplished potter. Superb!
