An Explosion of Orange: Stunning Polychrome Olla, signed Lucinda Toribio, c. 1935

From the collection of esteemed collector Richard (Dick) Howard comes this gorgeous water jar with birds and rainbow bands. We are indebted to 1930's potter Lucinda Toribio (1898-1962) for this outstanding jar. (There is a fine write-up on Lucinda in Harlow and Lanmon's the Pottery of Zia Pueblo, p. 322). Beautifully formed, this jar draws us in with luminous orange coloration. (Depending on our light source, the orange in the rainbow bands and in the bird read identically to great effect). This is a lush example by a largely forgotten master.

Condition excellent, unrestored
Provenance ex-collection Richard Howard
